| The
Hanekom family purchased the original Winkelshoek farm in 1925.
The first wines were made in 1938 and were sold in wooden barrels
to farmers countrywide. The company Winkelshoek Wine Cellars
was established in 1953. In 1981 the current owner, Hennie Hanekom
joined his father on the Winkelshoek farm. He bought out his
father's share of this family business in 1984. In 1991, Hennie
decided to break away on his own. He bought a piece of land
alongside the N7 at Piketberg. His dream to build a one-stop-spot
for tourists on this main route between Cape Town and Namibia
came into being in 1997 on completion of this beautiful thatched
roof complex.
